Fishing Charter

4 Hours on the Water — Real Miami Fishing

A half-day fishing charter is the most popular way to experience Miami's productive fishing grounds without committing to a full day on the water. In four hours your captain runs to the nearest productive grounds — reef lines, wrecks, weed lines, or offshore ledges — and puts you on fish. You spend the majority of your time with lines in the water, not running to and from fishing spots.

Miami sits at the intersection of the Gulf Stream, Biscayne Bay, and the Atlantic reef tract. The warm Gulf Stream current runs close to shore here — closer than almost anywhere else on the U.S. East Coast — bringing pelagic species within striking distance of a 4-hour trip. Your captain reads the water temperature, current breaks, and bait activity to position the boat where the fish are feeding.

Every charter is private. No strangers on your boat. Your captain and mate handle all the technical work — rigging, baiting, chumming, and boat positioning. When a fish strikes, they coach you through the fight. Whether you have fished your whole life or have never held a rod, the crew adapts to your skill level.

What You Can Catch

Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin Fish)

One of the most exciting sport fish in Miami. Fast strikes, acrobatic jumps, and excellent table fare. Peak season: spring and summer.

Kingfish (King Mackerel)

A hard-fighting fish that runs fast and long. Common on the reef lines within a few miles of shore. Available year-round with peaks in winter.

Sailfish

Miami is the sailfish capital of the world. These spectacular fish are catch-and-release. Peak season: December through April (winter months).

Snapper & Grouper

Bottom fishing on reefs and wrecks produces yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, and grouper. Great eating fish available year-round.

Wahoo

A prized gamefish known for its speed and quality meat. More common on full-day trips but catchable on half-days when conditions are right.

Bonito & Barracuda

Aggressive fighters that are common on the reef lines. Bonito are excellent live bait for larger species. Barracuda provide explosive strikes.

Typical Half-Day Itinerary

1

Board and Brief

Meet your captain at the marina. Quick safety briefing and discussion of what species you want to target. The captain checks weather, tide, and conditions.

2

Run to Fishing Grounds

15-30 minute run to the nearest productive area — reef line, wreck, or weed line. The captain may troll on the way out to cover water.

3

Fish Multiple Spots

Your captain works 2-4 spots over the next 3+ hours. Techniques include trolling, bottom fishing, live baiting, and kite fishing depending on conditions.

4

Return and Clean

Head back to the marina. Your captain or mate fillets your catch at the dock. Take your fish to a local restaurant or bring it home.

Common Questions

Half Day Fishing Charter — FAQ

How long is a half-day fishing charter in Miami?

A half-day fishing charter is typically 4 hours of on-water time. Your captain picks the best fishing grounds based on current conditions, tides, and what species are running. Four hours gives you enough time to reach productive waters, fish multiple spots, and return to the marina.

How much does a half-day fishing charter cost in Miami?

Half-day fishing charters start from $839 for a 4-hour trip. Price includes your captain, fuel, and crew. Bait, tackle, and fishing rods are provided at no extra charge. All prices are all-inclusive — no surprise fees at the dock.

What fish can I catch on a half-day charter in Miami?

Common catches on a half-day trip include mahi-mahi (dolphin fish), kingfish, sailfish (catch and release), wahoo, bonito, barracuda, snapper, and grouper. Your captain targets the species that are most active during your trip based on season, water temperature, and current patterns. Winter months (December through April) are peak season for sailfish.

Do I need fishing experience for a half-day charter?

No experience is necessary. Your captain and crew handle all the rigging, baiting, and boat positioning. They show you how to hold the rod, when to reel, and how to fight a fish. Half-day charters are popular with first-time anglers and families with children.

Is bait and tackle included in the charter price?

Yes. All bait, tackle, rods, reels, and terminal tackle are included at no additional cost. Your captain selects the right setup based on what species are running. If you have your own gear and prefer to use it, you are welcome to bring it.

What is the difference between a half-day and full-day fishing charter?

A half-day charter (4 hours) stays closer to shore and targets nearshore and reef species. A full-day charter (6-8 hours) gives you time to run offshore to deeper waters where you can target pelagic species like tuna, wahoo, and larger mahi-mahi. For first-time anglers or those short on time, half-day charters offer excellent fishing without the longer commitment.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Yes, you can keep your catch within Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulations. Your captain knows the current size and bag limits for each species. Some species like sailfish are catch-and-release only. Your captain can fillet your catch at the dock so you can take it to a restaurant or home.
